Treatment Approaches

What is CBT?

CBT incorporates counseling techniques that are often used to guide traditional “talk therapy” sessions. It is a method of developing increased self-awareness by understanding how thoughts, emotions, and actions interconnect. When people are more aware of these connections, they can often start to make changes in the way that they think, act, or feel. This counseling technique is a short-term, goal-driven method that is used to help individuals accomplish objectives through practical, hands-on techniques for problem solving and positive change.

What is ACT?

ACT is a counseling approach that is used to increase “psychological flexibility.” That sounds really complicated, but actually, it’s pretty simple. By working to stay mindful and live in the present moment, you can change your thoughts, feelings, and actions to be grounded in the current context rather than allowing memories, sensations, and emotions of past experience to continue governing your actions. This is achieved through combining the development of mindfulness and acceptance skills with commitment and behavior change techniques that can be practiced at home, so you can enjoy more of your life.

What is EMDR?

Simply put, EMDR is a counseling technique that helps people recover after trauma or distressing life events. We’ve learned that trauma actually changes the brain and body in real ways, so in order to completely heal from these difficult events, you have to repair the damage. While traditional talk therapy could take years to be effective, people who choose to move forward with EMDR often see dramatic improvement in just months or even weeks. We also provide EMDR Intensives, which offer the same benefits of traditional EMDR therapy at an accelerated rate, producing results in as little as a few days.

Real Talk About Teens & Counseling for Concerned Parents

As parents, your children’s needs are front and center all the time, but many parents struggle with sending their teens to visit a counselor. We love working with parents and adolescents to better understand the benefits of counseling for individuals of all ages. In the past, families were limited to available clinicians in their neighborhoods, but today, online counseling gives you access to knowledgeable professionals around the corner or on the other side of the world all from the comfort of your own home. If you’re a parent who’s still hesitant about scheduling a first appointment for yourself or your teen, consider scheduling a free 30-minute consult and we can discuss a bit more of what’s going on. We’re always happy to help.

What is Group Therapy?

Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy where a small group of individuals, led by a trained therapist, comes together to share their experiences, struggles, and emotions in a supportive and confidential environment. It offers a unique and powerful platform for personal growth and healing. We offer both in person therapy in Madison, Wisconsin and virtual therapy to those outside of the area and/or state.
